Saint Patrick's Way, Northern Ireland

Catherine Fulvio embarks on a Soulful Journey along Northern Ireland’s Saint Patrick’s Way in a new Two-Part Series airing on RTE1 on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th March (8pm) in the run up to St Patrick’s Day.

TV chef, food writer, and owner of Ballyknocken House & Cookery School, Catherine Fulvio, takes viewers on a journey along Saint Patrick’s Way: The Pilgrim Walk, a 132-kilometer trail through the Cathedral County and home of Ireland’s spiritual capital, Armagh and onward through the beautiful coastal landscape of County Down in the North of Ireland.

A Tapestry of History and Tradition

This enriching two-part series sees Catherine journey through unspoilt natural scenery on an immersive exploration of history, spirituality and the unique culture that defines Ireland’s pilgrim path as she experiences world class local food and drink.

From Armagh to Downpatrick – St. Patrick’s final resting place – this programme offers a blend of the natural world, meaningful conversations and culinary delights that highlight the beauty and depth of this iconic route which opened 10 years ago.

With an increased interest in slow travel, wellness, and outdoor experiences, this series resonates with a diverse audience as Catherine engages with locals, uncovers stories of the past, learns about innovative farming practices and explores the sacred and cultural significance of our patron Saint. Collecting stamps on her Pilgrim Passport at key locations along the way this route can be done in either direction and at different stages.

This two-part series culminates with Catherine reflecting over her journey in Armagh and Down as she highlights how the route supports not only personal growth but also the social and economic vitality of the communities along its way.

Spelga Dam Reservoir sits in the heart of the Mourne Mountains, located approximately 10 miles outside of Newcastle, County Down.  A man-made reservoir built in the 1950s by the Belfast engineering firm, R Ferguson and Son.  It supplies water to Portadown and Banbridge.  It occupies an area known as Deers Meadow and impounds the River Bann.  The reservoir car park provides a stunning, peaceful lookout over the glassy reservoir and is surrounded by the beautiful mountains.

Tyrella beach and conservation area is a small, enclosed dune complex within Dundrum Bay. It is a wide, flat, sandy beach two kilometres long and backed by 25 hectares of mature dunes in a conservation area.

Down Cathedral, a Cathedral of the Church of Ireland with magnificent stain glass windows, box pews and beautiful organ case was built in 1183 as a Benedictine Monastry. The patron saint, Patrick is believed to be buried in the nearby graveyard.
