Key Stage 2
Our Key Stage 2 programme is truly a classroom without walls. Expect your group to explore the wonders of the park whilst learning about what makes Castlewellan’s natural and built heritage unique. All sessions are interactive and involve hands-on learning and games.
The Lost Words – Literature in Nature – Using the wonderful Spell Songs book by Robert Macfarlane and discovering our wild spaces children will explore creative writing challenges.
Natural Art – Go on a scavenger hunt to collect natural materials and make individual and group artwork.
Tremendous Trees – Based in the amazing Arboretum the children will explore all corners of the world with an in depth look at the trees. How to identify them, work out their age and their lifecycles.
Castlewellan's Wild Side – From the birds and mini-beasts to the mammals and moths. Children will explore Castlewellan's wildlife and how they can help protect it.
In The Life of Farmers – Children will learn about the lives of tenant farmers in the late 19th Century and the class system in County Down.
