The Heart of the Arts in Downpatrick
For arts, crafts, drama and dance, Down Arts Centre in Downpatrick offers a buzzing calendar of events. Adults and kids alike can try their hands at a range of arts and crafts, or take in a show in the former Victorian Downpatrick town hall.
Pick up some local artwork to commemorate your trip at the in-house arts and crafts shop, featuring creations from the likes of Leigh Shepherd and Diane Lyness.
Top Floor Arts
Step into the inner circle of contemporary art in Northern Ireland at the Top Floor Art Gallery and Open Studio, Saintfield. Established by local artists Stephen McClean and Emma Whitehead to showcase their own work, today it promotes the work of thirty five artists, craftspeople and poets.
Stephen and Emma’s mission is to instil a love of the arts in their local community. Take part in one of the open drop-in sessions, and try your hand at fine arts and crafts under the expert supervision of local tutors.
Working Studios in Georgian Splendour
Set in a Georgian building, the Lodge Studio, Dundrum is the brainchild of local artists Helen Kerr and Richard Croft. Both are members of the Royal Ulster Academy, producing works in batik, embroidery, oils, watercolour, pastels and fine art prints.
All of their images take inspiration from their local landscape, in the heart of the Mournes around Newcastle. There’s something to suit every budget, from souvenirs collectors, to hardcore art buffs.

With contributions from over 100 different artists and craftspeople, the Blue Beans Craft Shop and Gallery is a hub of community arts in Castlewellan. With wares as diverse as glass, sculpture and ceramics, there’s something to suit every taste.
