About

This is an exciting opportunity for young people between the ages of 10 - 17 years old to immerse themselves in the rhythm of Djembe drumming and of nature. This hour long workshop will be delivered by master drummer Jimmy Haggan in the ancient Celtic Iron age round house.

Jimmy uses games and phonetics to help build up rhythms and techniques. Pupils will learn different polyrhythm's to play West African pieces. A short performance will be held at the end of the workshop.

Jimmy's interest in African drumming began during his time in the USA, studying under Guinean Djembe Masters of Chicago Drumming Community. In 2002, after returning home to Ireland Jimmy continued his musical education specialising in the pedagogy of Drumming. With over fifteen years teaching experience African drumming in various settings such as, large and small groups, one to one, and special needs groups, Jimmy has become one of the most sought after professionals in his field. Jimmy travels around Ireland and the UK giving Master classes and Workshops in drumming while also working with the Education Authority Northern Ireland teaching African, Samba and Tuned percussion.
