About

Matt McGinn

'Darkest Before the Day, what a truly beautiful track... Matt, your album is superb. I've seen Matt play live, he's fantastic... and Latter Day Sinner is a beautiful album.'
Bob Harris – BBC Radio 2

"Just amazing...such a big sound. The End of the Common Man is worth a serious listen" Anthony Toner - BBC Radio Ulster

'An outstanding blend of soulful passion and melody that will haunt and inspire.'
Americana UK

Hailing from the foothills of the Mourne Mountains, Matt McGinn's music is instantly recognisable by his warm, rasping and powerful voice and worldly wise lyrics.

Early in his career Matt opened for legends like Peter Green, John Hammond Jnr, Chris Smither and John Renbourn and in 2018 was a special guest on Rodney Crowell's tour. The hugely talented multi-instrumentalist is much in demand by touring bands, sharing the bill with Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney and Crosby, Stills and Nash. He performed with Nanci Griffith in Nashville, a seminal point in his careers and recorded recently with Aoife Scott.

His third album, 'The End of the Common Man', recorded between Nashville, Tennessee, and a farmhouse in Co. Down, was Album of the Week on BBC Radio Ulster.

2020 saw the release of his 4th studio album, 'Lessons of War', critically acclaimed around the globe. His latest singles 'Annie (Many Moons Ago)' and 'Lighthouse Joe' have been described as the best songs you will hear all year. The lead single 'Bubblegum,' written with Mick Flannery, was one of the most played songs on BBC Radio Ulster. BBC broadcaster Tom Robinson described it as 'extraordinary'.
