About

Jimmy Crowley and Eve Telford
Rostrevor Folk Club at Crawfords on Monday 27 February at 8pm

'The period lyrics are floated on a melodic magic carpet of bouzouki, mando-cello and guitar that evoke the medieval with a mist of synthesiser that affirms modernity.'
Fintan Valelly

Fierce robbers, scheming stepmothers, cross-dressing lassies, gallant pages, seduction by goblins, gothic horror, and an assortment of talking birds – just a small selection of themes from the famous collection of ballads from these islands collected by American scholar Francis James Child in the late 19th century.

These beautiful songs with their fascinating and ancient narratives were kept alive in Ireland by the storytelling and singing tradition of Travellers. Now they are subject of folk legend Jimmy Crowley and Australian singer Eve Crowley's new album 'Hello', described by Paul Brady as a 'Jewel of a Record'.

Jimmy Crowley is a beloved Irish folk musician and song collector from Cork who played with Stokers Lodge and the Electric Band before pursuing a solo career. Eve Telford is a singer rooted in the traditions of singers such as Nora Cleary, Margaret Barry and Elizabeth Cronin.

Tickets are £12.50 and available at Crawfords Bar (seven days from 3pm onwards), and by ringing +44(0)28 4173 9911. They also available at Belinda Cullen's Good Craic Gifts shop at 13 Church Street, Rostrevor (Sat 10am – 5pm, Sunday 1pm – 5pm). Please pay cash if possible.
