About
Join artist and weaver Jeanette Keenan, for this full-day workshop, suitable for beginners. With support from Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership, Féile na Bealtaine has been able to subsidise ticket prices for this event. So, come along and celebrate the long-awaited summer on the Eve of Bealtaine by weaving a berry basket to forage in the stunning hills and woodlands of Ring of Gullion and South Armagh. Learn the ancient craft of basket weaving, as our ancestors would have done, using organic willow and traditional techniques. Stay afterwards for a while and help decorate the May Tree and go home with a beautiful basket made by your own hand.
You should arrive at 9.45am sharp!!! in Bluebell Lane's carpark, greeted with tea and home made shortbread, as weaving begins at 10am in the woodland craft area or the roundhouse, weather-dependant. We'll have a lovely big fire lit, but please wear warm clothing and suitable footwear for the short woodland walk. There's a break for lunch and the workshop finishes at 5pm. Bring a packed lunch to enjoy in the woodlands; complimentary tea, coffee, cold drinks and biscuits available throughout the day.
THE PRACTICAL STUFF: Check for road works please (possibly at Camlough to Lislea)and download directions to Bluebell Lane before setting off as phone network and 4G is very poor around Ring of Gullion; you won't be able to call me on that morning.
There's free car parking and all amenities onsite. Basket weaving is tough on the hands and may not be suitable for those with pain or arthritic conditions.
