About

Strangford Lough Viking Festival, 24 – 27 March – Experience life of 1,000 years ago

With so much to see and do, to laugh and to learn, spend a day or more with the whole family at the festival.

World class artists, musicians and historical experts will conduct a range of workshops and you can make your own silver jewellery or a gallon of mead.

Friday’s highlight is the Viking Feast, set in an outstandingly beautiful location on the shores of Strangford Lough. Just take a seat at our tables during The Feast alongside dozens of Viking characters and enjoy a night to remember. If you wish, you and your friends could dress appropriately for the occasion. A special prize will be awarded to the best dressed Viking guest. This will be a feast worthy of a Viking King.

Music and Viking style entertainment will round off the experience.

From 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, Viking reenactors will be camped in Portaferry and Strangford and will retell the shared Viking story of the two villages to visitors. Full size replica longships will be on display and on the lough. Sailors from the Vikings TV Series will tell you about their adventures.

In the camps you can see how Viking folk lived in the area more than a thousand years ago. Demonstrations throughout each day will be by crafts people using medieval tools and ancient skills and will include, woodworking, pottery, weaving, jewellery making, birds of prey and Rune reading. Visitors to the camps can try axe throwing, archery and spear throwing and hear Skalds tell Viking sagas, participate in childrens treasure hunts, and see fierce warriors do battle.

Saturday evening will be a treat for concert goers.  Following a torchlit procession, local and international musicians will take to the stage to get your feet tapping and heart racing.
