Slievenaglogh Diamond Rocks, The Mournes

Meelmore Lodge Information Point, 52 Trassey Road, Newcastle, Co Down, BT33 0QB
Slievenaglogh

About

The Diamond Rocks are located just south of Slievenaglogh and west of Slieve Corragh in the Mourne Mountains.

The heather covers the slopes of both these mountains but for those who look carefully you will find the Diamonds of the Mournes, namely crystals of quartz, mica and lightly coloured felspar.

Some of the granite cavities yield rarer minerals such as topaz and beryl, which are often found along this area.

On this walk you will venture through tollymore then off trail past Lukes Mountain, before taking the steady climb to the summit of Slievenaglogh (Sliabh na gCloch 586m) 'The Mountain of the Stones'.

I have yet to see another walker on this route to the summit, which is great for those who like to take an off course trail and enjoy a sense of adventure.
