About
“Throughout human history the CLOWN /JESTER/STAND UP COMEDIAN has always been a mirror on all society a beacon of truth, and the exact same can be applied to the ARTIST. Because they are, one in the same.”
Paul Currie is an interdisciplinary artist. Within their art Paul is a musician, stand-up comedian, sculptor, painter, Jim Henson
muppeteer, producer, human rights activist, actor and community circus tutor & stilt walker, working in Belfast.
This exhibition is about looking, observing and dissecting the many layers of humanity that Paul has observed as a performer traveling UK, Europe, Australia & New Zealand. For the last 15 years Paul has brought audiences together making complete strangers laugh & more importantly making them think. Paul wants an audience to reevaluate their preconceptions of other humans & places, specifically Belfast, but also human society as a whole & also of gender through Paul’s visual & verbal communication skills as circus artist & stand-up comedian.
As an artist Paul likes to tackle, embrace & celebrate uncomfortable human issues such as sexual and religious identity, gender, as well as politics and world conflicts. Paul’s visual fine art attempts to reflect the urgency, absurdity, whimsy, mirth and tragedy of humanity.
This exhibition reflects those experiences through various styles and techniques.
