About

To complement our current temporary exhibition ‘Slices of History: Memories of McCann’s Bakery’, the Museum will host two bread making demonstrations. On Saturday 14 September, at 11am and again at 2pm Sharon Campbell from Mrs C’s Home Kitchen in Dundrum, will visit the Museum for a demonstration of bread making including soda and potato bread (with sampling of course).

There will also be two guided tours of the Museum including the temporary exhibitions ‘Slices of History: Memories of McCann’s Bakery’, and ‘Newry Artists: Past and Present’ starting at 10am and again at 1pm.

‘Slices of History: Memories of McCann’s Bakery’, looks at the Bakery’s long history going back to its establishment in 1837. On display are a wide range of items such as a breadman’s jacket, recipes, brochures, and bread making equipment, all of which will bring back fond memories.

‘Newry Artists: Past and Present’ celebrates the works of talented artists who hail from Newry or who have found inspiration in the local area. It features a collection of fine and applied art, including sculptures, dating from the late 19th century up until the present, and offers a unique opportunity to explore artworks from the Museum Collection that are not typically on display.

For visitors who wish to take a stroll through the galleries, the Museum provides FREE audio guides in English, Irish, French German which provide more information on the Castle and the exhibits. A tour aimed at children in the age range 7-12 is now available in English and Irish.
