National Trust Castle Ward EHOD 2024

National Trust Castle Ward, Strangford, County Down, BT30 7BA
Castle Ward

About

Castle Ward is a stunning historical estate set amidst the rolling hills of County Down. This 18th-century demesne showcases stunning architecture, lush gardens, and a rich tapestry of history. As you approach the property, you'll be struck by the striking contrasts of the mansion itself , one side built in the classical style whilst the other in gothic. This remarkable design exemplifies the unique tastes of the Viscounts Bangor who commissioned its construction in the 1760s.

Wandering the expansive grounds, you'll discover a vibrant sunken garden, woodland trails, and the tranquil shores of Strangford Lough. Outdoor enthusiasts will delight in the wealth of activities available, from scenic cycling routes, shoreline walks and bespoke trails for horse riding. Other features including a water-powered corn mill, clock tower, laundry, and ornamental canal.
