Japanese Theatre

About

It is harvest time and the Moon Goddess sends Rabbit down to earth to

collect rice grains for her, but he takes a wrong turn resulting in some

unexpected adventures. Join Rabbit as he rides on a bullet train for the

very first time, meets some naughty Kappas - the spirits of the marshes -

and is chased by a hide-and-seek ghost.

Will he get back home to the Moon Goddess safely?

Come and find out in this traditional Japanese storytelling show, full of

surprises and fun!
A Thousand Cranes theatre company was founded in 2006 by performer Kumiko Mendl and director Vicky Ireland MBE. Combining Vicky's lifelong passion for Children's Theatre and interest in Japan and Kumiko's childhood memories of living in Japan we decided to create a company dedicated to bringing the many fascinating stories and the culture of Japan to young audiences in the UK.
Vicky Ireland MBE (Co-Artistic Director) trained at Central and then worked as an actress in TIE and repertory theatres all over Britain. She presented BBC's TV's Words And Pictures for 12 years. From 1989 to 2002 she was Artistic Director of Polka Theatre for Children and is now a freelance director and writer.
Kumiko Mendl (Co-Artistic Director and Performer) trained at the Jacques Lecoq Theatre School in Paris. Since then she has worked as an actress, teacher, movement director and director. She is Artistic Director of the award-winning British East Asian theatre company Yellow Earth.
