About

Join us at Down County Museum as we welcome local researcher, Ken Dawson, for a fascinating lecture to mark the 225th anniversary of the 1798 Rebellion.

The question of how serious was the damage inflicted on the United Irishmen by the presence of spies and informers within their ranks continues to fascinate. As the movement veered towards rebellion, it was penetrated by a number of individuals who provided useful intelligence to the authorities. Who were these individuals and what was their impact on the United Irishmen in Belfast and on the 1798 Rebellion in County Down? This talk focuses on the activities of figures such as Nicholas Mageean of Saintfield, Samuel Turner of Newry and Downpatrick-born Edward John Newell.

The event is free, but booking is required.
