About

Escapes, supported by the BFI awarding National Lottery funding, returns to Newry Omniplex Cinema on Monday 8th July with a special preview of gripping South Korean thriller film Sleep. With the opportunity to watch the film ahead of its official UK release date, free tickets are available to encourage everyone to discover, or rediscover, independent cinema.

This month sees Escapes taking its audience on a nocturnal trip full of twists and turns with Sleep, a horror-thriller about an escalating case of somnambulism and the effects it has on a happily married couple. Directed by Jason Yu, the assistant director to Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho, Sleep stars Lee Sun-kyun (best known for his leading role in Best Picture winner Parasite) as a sleep-walking husband opposite Jung Yu-mi, who plays his pregnant wife. Premiering at Cannes' Critics Week, Sleep is a deeply unique take on the horror genre and a startling debut feature from Yu.

Offering a year of free independent film, Escapes will announce regular screenings, with past screenings including The Iron Claw back in February, Seize Them! in March, and The Dead Don't Hurt in May.
