A pure vocal tone and an energetic stage presence has made Frances one of Ireland's most popular singers. A former member of Arcady and the Black Family, Black made her solo debut with two tracks on the on the million selling, multi artist compilation 'A Woman's Heart' in 1993.

Frances first solo album Talk to Me became an instant hit when released in 1994, it spent eight weeks at number one in her native Ireland. Since then she has released many award winning albums and continues to tour and perform around the world. Her success was followed by a string of successful albums, including "The Sky Road" "Don't Get Me Wrong" and "How High the Moon" which further solidified her position as one of Ireland's most beloved singers.

Frances began her musical journey at a young age, influenced by her family's love for traditional Irish music. She honed her skills in local folk clubs and soon became a sought-after performer in the Irish music scene.

Frances's music often explores themes of love, loss, and personal growth, resonating deeply with listeners who connect with her honest and heartfelt lyrics. Her ability to convey raw emotions through her soulful voice has earned her numerous accolades and awards throughout her career.

Beyond her musical achievements, Frances Black, an independent Senator in the Seanad Éireann since 2016, has been a passionate advocate for social issues, particularly those related to addiction and mental health. Frances became an active spokesperson for recovery and founded the RISE Foundation in 2009. The foundation provides support and resources for families affected by addiction, helping them navigate the challenges and offering hope for a brighter future.

Road Directions

Directions from Town: Follow the A7 from Belfast or the A25 from Clough into Downpatrick town centre, drive straight to the T junction at the end of Market Street and turn left. Down Arts Centre is a large red brick building with a clock tower on the right hand side, on the corner of Irish and Scotch Street. There are several paid and display car parks in the near vicinity and some on-street parking nearby.
