Experience the Magic of Ireland with The Quiet Man

About

On Thursday 20 March, join us for a screening of The Quiet Man, the quintessential Irish-American film directed by John Ford. This charming, romantic drama follows the story of Sean Thornton (John Wayne), an American boxer who returns to his ancestral home in Ireland, where he falls in love with the fiery Mary Kate Danaher (Maureen O’Hara). What follows is a beautiful, often humorous exploration of love, family, and tradition, set against the stunning Irish landscape.

From the breathtaking scenery of County Mayo to the iconic and heartwarming scenes of Sean and Mary Kate’s romance, The Quiet Man has become a timeless symbol of Irish culture, hospitality, and the clash between old-world tradition and modernity. Whether you’re revisiting
this classic or seeing it for the first time, watching it on the big screen is an experience not to be missed.

This March, escape to the picturesque village of Inishfree and immerse yourself in one of Hollywood’s most beloved depictions of Ireland. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the spirit of St. Patrick’s Month and experience a true cinematic treasure.

Following the success of our Movies in the Morning series, we’re kicking off 2025 with a brand-new lineup of films and live performances — all designed to bring joy, creativity, and connection. This quarter, we’re offering something for everyone: watch classic films on the big screen, rediscover
old favourites you haven’t seen in years, or enjoy fun, feel-good films that will lift your spirits and spark conversation. Whether you’re a lifelong film lover or just looking for a great way to spend your morning or evening, Down Arts Centre is the perfect place to experience it all.
