About

Poc Fada competitions have been going on in the Mournes for centuries. This fiercly contested battle is for the Pearse Branagan Memorial Cup. Part of the Back from the Boley 2022 collection.

Poc Fada (Long Puck) is an ancient hurling tradition that comes to us from the pre-Christian gods of Irish legend that illustrates the close relationship between the people of Hilltown and their mountains. It is held annually to test the hurling and camogie skills of the best players. Essentially, the hurler or camog who can puck a sliotar (ball) around a course in the fewest pucks, using a hurley (ash stick) is the winner. Because of the near-miraculous distances a hurler can puck, the competition is held on the distinctive Hen Mountain, where there is plenty of room. The course runs from the foot of the Hen Mountain, up around the peaks and back down. This event is organised annually by Clonduff GAC and the winner is awarded the Pearse Branagan Memorial Cup. Admission to this event is free. No booking required.
