About

Join us at Down County Museum for a special screening of a documentary film, recorded by local historian Horace Reid. The film will be introduced by Robert Burgess, part of the committee which produced the films.

The Battle of Ballynahinch, fought on 13th June 1798, was the most momentous event in the history of the town. Its rebel participants aimed to replicate the American Revolution in Ireland. Local reformers wanted to prise political power away from the aristocracy and place it in the hands of the industrial and agricultural classes, who actually generated the country's wealth. The rebellion in Ireland failed at the time, but ultimately it led to Ireland's Act of Union in 1801, Catholic Emancipation in 1829, and reform of Parliament in 1832.

The Rowallane and Slieve Croob Community Twinning Group – Arts and Culture Project 2022-2023 is an innovative living history project which aims to capture the life-long research into the Rowallane area by our eminent local historian, Horace Reid in 6 mini-documentaries. These documentaries are being uploaded to the Rowallane and Slieve Croob Community Twinning Group YouTube site and linked to the RSCCTG facebook page.
