About

Geologically themed day hike through one of the most picturesque mountains passes in The Mournes, crossing The Mourne Wall to reach the fascinating ‘Diamond Rocks’.

The Tour “Diamond Rocks” is a moderately graded and fully guided hill-walk of approximately 7.5 km with a height gain of around 400 metres. Some of the walk is across rough open mountainside and for parts we will be leaving any clearly defined paths behind.

There will be several stops at various locations throughout the day where we will interpret the landscape and discuss Mournes development through the ages from a Geological, Glacial and general historical point of view.

Participants should expect to be on the mountain for 4 – 5 hours. Anyone with a reasonable level of mountain fitness should be comfortable with the pace set on this walk.

We may even find a much sought after and very rare gemstone “Doranite”!
