We need you to help us to preserve our stunning region and respect the natural environment. Here's a reminder of the 7 handy hints to #LeaveNoTrace.
Plan Ahead and Prepare
- Before you head out, check if access and your activity is permitted in the area you wish to visit.
- Respect any signage you find along your way. Some of our parks have new directional signage, please follow this to ensure social distancing.
- Where possible travel by sustainable transport. If you have to use a car, do be mindful as well of where you park so you aren't blocking the road for other users.
- Check the weather and be prepared for changing weather conditions.
Be Considerate of others
- Respect those who work and live in the countryside, avoid blocking gateways, forest entrances and narrow roads.
- Take care not to damage property (eg walls, fences and crops)
- Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Do be mindful of social distancing, keep two metres apart, step aside and let others pass-by first.
Respect Farm Animals and Wildlife
- Keep dogs under control and on a lead where necessary.
- Observe wild animals and birds from a distance
- Don't feed wildlife or birds as our food damages their health and leaves them vulnerable to predators.
- Remain a safe distance from farm animals.
Leave What You Find
- Respect property and leave gates as you find them. Enjoy old structures eg the Mourne Wall but please don't walk on them.
- Leave rocks, flowers, plants and animals and all natural habitats as you find them.
No BBQs or Fires
- Fires can cause lasting impacts and be devasting to forests, natural habitats and farmland to please avoid lighting any fires.
Dispose of Waste Properly
- "If you bring it in, take it out" - Take home what you bring ie all litter and any leftover food.
Park Responsibility
- If you arrive at a site and it looks to be busy already, please don’t make it even busier (or park in an awkward place) instead have an alternative plan and drive onto somewhere else. There are plenty of areas to enjoy exercise throughout the Mournes but do come prepared as the weather can change very quickly.
