Free festive fun for the family on 3rd, 10th and 17th December.
Take some time off from Christmas shopping and preparations with FREE activities at the Down County Museum on Saturdays through December.
TALES
Cosy up for some festive and seasonal tales by the fire with professional storytellers Karen Edwards and Janice Witherspoon. The whole family will be transported through time and imagination to discover stories of winter and local legend in the atmospheric surroundings of our old gaol. The storytelling runs for 30-40 minutes and begins at 11.30, 1.30 and 2.30. Places are strictly limited, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
TOYS
Or help us deck the halls by creating Christmas decorations in our craft area. You can take something handmade home, or place it on one of our special museum Christmas trees, to help share some colour and sparkle with other visitors. Crafts run from 10.30 to 3.00 each day.
Or challenge yourself to find all of the Toys and Treasures we have on display through our museum in our gallery hunt. You might even earn yourself a little reward…
We've even created a mini exhibition of presents from the past. Find out what our staff connected with in our collection, and get nostalgic about your favourite presents of times gone by.
TUNES
We will be bringing in the sounds of Christmas with local musician Deborah Fitzsimons on Saturday 3rd and 10th, with a festive set at 2pm. And for the 17th December only, we will be welcoming the Newtownards Silver Band for Christmas music, from carols to contemporary. The band plays from 2pm, so come and join us…
All activities are FREE! We want to welcome you all here and celebrate the season. Places for some events are strictly limited, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
TREATS
You can also recharge in our "honesty café" with a tasty treat or a cup of something to warm you. We'll be working with local suppliers to provide something to tempt you while you enjoy the atmosphere. If you can, then donations are very welcome and much appreciated.
The Museum is open from 10am to 4.30pm.
