Reminiscence and Loan Box Service
Reminiscence activity, both general and specialised, is of proven value for individuals, families, groups and communities.
Since 2007 Newry and Mourne Museum has organised and developed reminiscence activities in the Newry and Mourne area. The Museum has engaged with new and diverse audiences and facilitated the training of museum staff to ensure that a skilled reminiscence activity continues at the Museum.
One of the key factors in this service is the borrowing of our loan boxes by health care workers, historical societies, community groups and schools.
The boxes contain multi-sensory triggers which can be a stimulus to memory. Handling ordinary everyday objects such as bars of soap, items of clothing or jewellery can prompt discussions and spark reminiscence.
They can be borrowed free of charge from the Museum and be kept for up to two weeks. Themes include:
-
School Life
-
Rural Life
-
Home Life
-
Grooming and Fashion
-
1940's & 50's
-
Earning a Crust
-
1970 & 80s
-
Performing Arts
-
Christmas
Museum staff can give brief instructions on their use and the boxes can be booked by calling 0330 137 4422.
