Overview of Research Resources
Newry and Mourne Museum has one of the most outstanding local history archives in any local museum in Northern Ireland. It comprises three discrete collections which contain sources of local and national importance.
The Reside Collection
The Reside Collection was Major Gerald Reside, a local architect and historian, and his wife Margaret Reside, a local solicitor. Dating from 1708 to the 1990s, material including architectural drawings, maps, landed estate records, newspaper cuttings and notes on local history.
The Hugh Irvine Collection
Compiled by Hugh Irvine, a teacher in Kilkeel High School, the Collection relates to local and family history in the Kilkeel area.
The Éamon Donnelly Collection
The Collection comprises the personal and political papers of Éamon Donnelly, a prominent Nationalist politician in Ireland during the 1920s and 1930s, and one of the founding members of Fianna Fáil.
