Down Arts Centre is delighted to launch the new season programme of performances, classes, one day workshops, film screenings, craftivity club for kids and exhibitions from January to April 2025.
The brochure’s front cover features one of the colourful abstract portraits from Paul Currie’s individually styled ‘Mirror Paul’ forthcoming exhibition in the gallery in February. Other exhibitions coming up in the new year include ‘roselight’ by acclaimed County Down Based artist Frances O’Reilly. In celebration of International Women’s Day, Leontia Haldenby curates ‘Mater’ a group exhibition that celebrates the strength, resilience and creativity of women. In April the Office of Public Works in partnership with the Department of Finance is delighted to present ‘Connections’, the most recent in their cross-border series of contemporary art exhibitions across Ireland featuring 63 artworks by 60 artists.
The new programme is also packed with weekly classes ranging from Tai Chi, Yoga, Painting and Pottery to Flower Arranging. One-day workshops feature Silver Jewellery, Sound Bath Meditations, Spring Wreaths and Willow Birdfeeder.
Performances include music from Frances Black, Kieran Goss & Annie Kinsella as well as award winning singer, Barbara Dickson. Drama from GBL Productions ‘Thursdays with Elvis’. Film screenings in partnership with Film Hub NI with our regular Thursday Movies in the Mornings – beat the January blues with Singin in the Rain on Thursday 23 January.
This season we are delighted to introduce Craftivity Club – Saturday workshops for 6 to 9 year olds – kids will have a blast with our seasonal arts & crafts programme on offer!

Thursdays with Elvis

Lana is a single mother of 12-year-old Libby. She struggles with the cost of living and the rising price of Prosecco, whilst trying to survive on Universal Credit. She can’t even afford a night out. So every Thursday night she and her wee Christian friend, Mary Magdalene Miriam, doll themselves up and have a wee drink and listen to Lana’s mother’s music from the 1950s and 60s. She gets the shock of her life when one Thursday night Elvis appears - and returns every week.
