Walking in the Mourne Mountains

About

Follow the footsteps of our ancestors as they left their summer homes in the mountain meadows for the long walk back to Hilltown.

The semi-nomadic tradition of boleying is brought to life in the opening event of the Back from The Boley festival. The Mourne Storytellers set the scene with a re-enactment of a typical family's return from their summer mountain home in time for the harvest. Dress up and play your part by joining in the old-time costumed sponsored walk, with musical accompaniment. It begins at Hen Mountain Car Park and follows the New Line Road, crossing the Bann River footbridge and on to Hilltown Square (2 miles) in aid of Mourne Mountain Rescue and Clonduff Youth Club. Free bus to transport walkers from Ballygorian car park at 5pm to Hen Mountain for the start of the walk. Return to the Youth Club where sponsorship money is collected and get treated to supper, from 6.30pm.

FREE event, no booking necessary. Sponsorship cards available from Hilltown Post Office.
