Looking for some inspiration on what to do, where to go, and places to eat and stay when you come to the Mourne Mountains & Ring of Gullion? As well as lots of information here on the website, our friendly Visitor Information team is available to lend a hand and give you the inside track on those bucket list musts.
Advice and information Close at Hand
At our Visitor Information Centres (VICs) you’ll find people happy to help with advice on what’s happening locally and across Northern Ireland. They’ll point you to the nearest and best activities and attractions, offer maps, brochures and guides to get you on your way, and they’ll let you know where ‘the craic’ is to be found of an evening.
To Remember Your Trip
Some of our information centres sell local artisan crafts and products as well as trinkets and souvenirs for you to remember your trip by or take home to loved ones after your stay.
Where is the local Visitor Information Centre?
You’ll find Newcastle VIC conveniently located on Central Promenade in the centre of this Victorian seaside resort. Make sure and ask where’s the best place for ‘a poke’ in town. That would be an ice cream cone to you and me! Welcoming more than fifty thousand visitors to the Mourne Mountains & Ring of Gullion each year, there’ll rarely be a question the people at Newcastle VIC can’t answer or, at the very least, they’ll know a local who can!
Downpatrick VIC is housed in the St Patrick Centre on Market Street, and you’ll find Newry VIC in Newry and Mourne Museum at Bagenal’s Castle. An early example of a fortified house, a type of residential building favoured by the gentry in Ireland and Scotland in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, Bagenal’s Castle is a must-see on your visit.
The Nautilus Centre at the Harbour is home to the Visitor Information Centre in Kilkeel. What’s more, the team there will be able to tell you what the best catch was that morning, and with Mourne Seafood Cookery School not but a stone’s throw away, you could even book yourself on to a Catch to Cook experience and reel in your own dinner the next time!
You can contact each centre by email, telephone, social media or just drop in and chat to the team yourself.
